My Favorite Pizza Recipe form scratch
I love to make pizza at home; it tastes much better than the store ones.
We can always make it with our favorite toppings, and play with shaping them. Here is the recipe and details for making a normal round shaped pizza and a flower shaped pizza.
Ingredients
- Pizza Dough
- Whole wheat flour - 1 1/2 cups
- All purpose flour - 1 ½ cups
- Lukewarm water - 1 1/8 cups
- Honey - 2 Table spoon
- Olive oil - 2 Table spoon
- Salt - 1 teaspoon
- Yeast - 2 Teaspoon
- PizzaSauce
- Blanched Tomatoes - 3 medium
- Tomato Puree - 2 Small Packets
- Shallots - 5 Nos
- Onion - 1 No.
- Garlic - 1 full pod
- Butter - 2 Tablespoon
- Oregano (dried) - 1 teaspoon
- Thyme (dried) - 1/2 Teaspoon
- Fresh Basil - 1 Handful (I grow them at home)
- Pepper - -to our taste
- Red dried Chili flakes or paprika - to your taste
- Salt - to taste
- Sugar - 1 tablespoon
Instructions
Pizza Dough
In a bowl take 1 1/8 cup lukewarm water, add 1 tsp sugar and 2 tsp dry yeast. Mix well and set aside to rise.
In a large mixing bowl, take Whole wheat flour – 1 1/2 cups and All purpose flour – 1 ½ cups, add 2 Tbs olive oil, 2 Tbs honey and 1 tsp salt.
Mix all the above using a scrape to make smooth soft dough, transfer to a lightly floured work table and knead gently at least 10 Minutes. Make a ball shaped dough.
Transfer it back to lightly greased mixing bowl, gently grease with olive oil and cover with a wet cloth and set aside to rise for 1 ½ to 2 Hours.
You can either use it immediately, or keep it, wrapped in clingfilm, in the fridge (or freezer) until required.
After two hours, knock down the dough. Make two equal shaped dough balls. Pat down to the desire shape.
Here one round shaped and one flower shaped pizza are made. Refer to the photos for shaping and toping the pizza.
Pizza Sauce
Heat the butter in a pan, add minced garlic, sauté and when done, add minced shallots and onion, sauté well. When done add pepper and the dried leaves (Oregano and thyme), sauté well. Add in minced blanched tomato, and sauté till it is soft and cooked, followed by tomatoes puree, sauté well for few minutes. Add ½ cup of boiling water and let it reduce in low flame for 5 minutes. When thickened and done add minced fresh basil leaves and the sugar, mix well and set aside to cool.
Pizza Topping
This is purely your own world. I used Mozzarella and cheddar cheese.
Best are mushrooms, pepperoni, mortadella, barbequed meat, prawns, bell peppers of various colors etc:- all is yours choice.
Final Setting.
Knead the dough again and pat the dough to the desired shape of your baking tray. Final finishing and spreading can be done with hand (it shouldn't be too thick). Poke the spread base with a fork, add a table spoon of olive oil and spread all over the base. Add a layer of the prepared pizza sauce, followed by thin layer of Mozzarella cheese or any combination with mozzarella and other cheese. Add layers of the other toppings, mushrooms, meat, mince onions, cubed bell pepper etc:- followed by a thicker layer of mozzarella cheese to fully cover the topping. Add sliced olives on top.
Bake in a pre heated oven at 180-200 C for 25-35 minutes. Yummy pizza aroma will be all round your home, Enjoy it.

Hi sumod,I have a doubt about yeast.Which yeast did you use,instant or active yeast.And if it’s active what s the qty of instant yeast I could use.
instant yeast, you can use dry yeast also, the same quantity

Superb and fool proof recipe, my family enjoyed the pizza. Though because of electricity cut off, I baked the pizza on gas but still it came out perfect. Thanks for the recipe and detailed write-up.
